Thomas Fuchs was classically trained in fine art at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington, D.C. as well as The Art Student League of New York and the National Academy of Design also located in New York City.
His love for furniture design and the decorative arts lead him to pursue a career in the fine art auction business which started at C.G. Sloan in Washington, D.C. After several years of working in the furniture department, Thomas joined Butterfield and Butterfield in San Francisco as a furniture specialist and appraiser.
Building upon his auction experience, Thomas became a private dealer until he was persuaded by his client, preeminent interior designer Craig Wright, to move to Los Angeles and collaborate on a collection of high-end furniture for Quatrain. The resulting collection demonstrated Thomas passion for classical scale and proportion, and his love for unusual forms and motifs. During his five-year tenure at Quatrain, Thomas produced a collection of over thirty pieces from mirrors, seating, and accessories, to case pieces.
Thomas was lured back to New York by Donghia and, as Director of Design Development for Furniture, he continued to create classically inspired but modern pieces, as well as adding new materials to his repertoire like teak wood, glass, various metals, and stones.
Currently, Thomas is the lead designer and a principal owner of Otium, LLC., which specializes in Venetian glass. Coming soon, Otium will be introducing porcelain accessories and furniture to its initial collection.
