Optimistic and essential, rigorous and refined: these are the hallmarks of Thad Hayes designs. Early on Mr. Hayes was influenced by an unusual mixture of sources, from American 18th century architecture and furniture to postwar American design, especially as practiced by Charles and Ray Eames, Richard Neutra, and Albert Frey. They were times of new beginnings, Hayes remarks. I believe that every interior should have some of that spirit.

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Mr. Hayes studied at Louisiana State University in the School of Environmental Design. He worked as a landscape architect before moving to New York to study interior design at Parsons School of Design. He went to work at Bray-Schaible Design in 1982, and four years later established his own office, which is now in it s fifteenth year. In January 2000, Mr. Hayes was named one of the AD 100 by Architectural Digest magazine.
